CRCS Families Programs

Annual Report 2024 – 2025

You are here:

At CRCS, we know that strong family relationships are the foundation of wellbeing. When parents and carers feel confident and connected, children are more likely to thrive – and that’s good for everyone.

Our three core family programs – Family FoundationsFamily Education, and Family Support – work together to strengthen relationships, reduce stress and build confidence. From early intervention and therapeutic support to group learning and one-on-one case work, families are met where they are and supported in ways that fit their lives

Connection and Belonging

Across our programs, trust and relationships sit at the centre of everything we do.
At the Ginninderra Early Childhood Centre, Wraparound Child and Family Practitioners became a familiar presence – chatting with parents, supporting educators and helping children feel safe and understood. Through 68 therapeutic sessions and 18 referrals, 19 families built stronger parent–child relationships, and every single one said they were completely satisfied and would recommend the program to others.

In schools and community spaces, Family Education delivered 15 parenting and community groups – including Circle of Security, Tuning in to Kids and the Yurwang Gulwan and Yurwang Bullarn women’s and girls’ groups – across 100 sessions attended by 241 participants. These gatherings provided safe, inclusive spaces to connect, learn and celebrate culture.

Family Support practitioners supported 92 families – 327 people in total – to stabilise housing, strengthen resilience and rebuild community connections. 100% of participants said they felt respected and supported, and all said they trusted CRCS to do the right thing.

“We were in terrible turmoil and I couldn’t see our way forward. Now I have a brighter future ahead with a much more optimistic view of what we can achieve.” – Parent

Purpose and Wellbeing
Parenting can be tough, but when families have access to the right tools, everything changes.

Using evidence-based frameworks such as Circle of Security and Seasons for Growth, parents learned strategies to manage emotions, reduce stress and strengthen bonds with their children. Many told us they felt calmer, more confident and better able to respond to their children’s needs – improvements that also flowed into housing stability, finances and everyday wellbeing.

“We have found this course transformative in our relationship and positive parenting, looking after our mental health and understanding toddler behaviour and child development.” – Parent at GECC

Across the year, more than 352 families engaged in CRCS family programs, each building skills and confidence that support long-term wellbeing for both children and parents.

Choice and Control

Every family is different, so flexibility is key. CRCS programs are designed to meet families’ individual needs. Whether that’s a one-off conversation with a practitioner, a structured parenting course, or long-term case management.

Choice and control are also about having a voice in shaping decisions, expressing needs, and receiving information in ways that make sense for each family. Families are supported to share their experiences, ask questions, and actively guide the support they receive.

Family Education groups were delivered online and in person across schools, community centres and partner sites, ensuring accessibility for parents facing barriers such as language, disability, trauma or mental health. Meanwhile, Family Foundations sessions were tailored to each child’s developmental stage and family situation, and Family Support continued to walk alongside families at their own pace.

“Massive emotional support and practical linking to supports. I wouldn’t be this far into reaching critical goals without this support.” – Family Support participant

Supporting Parents, Strengthening Futures

Across the Capital Region, CRCS is helping shape what quality, evidence-based support for parents looks like – and how strong families lead to better mental health for everyone. Supporting families has always been at the heart of what we do.

When parents feel confident and connected, children thrive. Our approach is built on evidence and trust: programs that give parents the tools to build strong, positive relationships with their children, reduce stress, and promote wellbeing across the whole family.

It’s not about fixing problems. It’s about strengthening relationships and creating lifelong skills. Research shows that for every dollar invested in family support, up to three dollars are saved across health, education and justice systems. That’s why CRCS continues to invest in what matters most: helping families build strong foundations for the future.

Celebrating Identity Through Music

At GECC’s Easter celebration, facilitator Sarah sang a Spanish children’s song for Miguel and his son, Mateo. Their happy response inspired a new idea: a multilingual group time, now a regular feature in the centre. This small moment reflects what Family Foundations is all about – supporting children’s identity, celebrating family strengths and creating spaces where every child and parent feels a true sense of belonging.
