Lydia’s Story: Building Stronger Connections with Her Children

Lydia is a mum of two, raising her children while navigating language barriers and cultural differences around family roles and relationships.

She often found it hard to manage her children’s emotions and wanted fewer arguments and more connection at home.

To support her, Lydia joined the 6-week Tuning in to Kids program. The program helps parents strengthen emotional bonds with their children by learning how to name, understand and respond to feelings.

In the group, Lydia listened to other parents’ challenges, shared her own experiences, and spoke openly about cultural expectations. She often stayed back after sessions to ask questions and check her understanding of how the strategies could work for her family.

By the end, Lydia felt less alone in her parenting struggles. She said she’s learning that acknowledging emotions is okay—and although it doesn’t come naturally to her, she’s already seeing her children respond more positively when she names and validates their feelings.
