Volunteer with CRCS
Volunteers are an important part of Capital Region Community Services (CRCS). They help people stay connected, supported and involved in community life.
When you volunteer with CRCS, you help create a stronger, kinder and more connected community.
Our volunteers support people in many ways, from driving someone to an appointment, to helping at a social group, or providing administrative support, or contributing to special projects or fundraising campaigns.
Volunteering can also help you:
- meet new people
- build confidence and skills
- feel more connected to your community
- enjoy a sense of purpose
- support your mental health and wellbeing
- explore future work or study pathways.
You can also learn more about the benefits of volunteering on the VolunteeringACT website.
How our volunteers help
There are many ways to volunteer with CRCS. Explore the options below to learn how volunteers help across our community.

Community transport
Help people get where they need to go.
Volunteer drivers support older people, people with disability and others in the community by helping them get to appointments, shopping, errands and social activities.
You’ll usually need a current driver licence, an ACT-registered vehicle and comprehensive insurance. Fuel and running cost reimbursement may be available.

Social activities for older adults
Support people to join in and feel connected.
Volunteers help with social groups, outings, creative activities and wellbeing programs.
This may include welcoming participants, helping set up, joining activities and supporting people to take part.

Administration and project support
Use your skills behind the scenes.
Some volunteers help with office, communication or project tasks.
This may include data entry, preparing resources, helping with events, supporting newsletters or other program needs.

Connect Up volunteering
Help young adults build connection and belonging.
Connect Up volunteers help create relaxed, welcoming activities for young adults aged 18–39.
This may include supporting social events, joining group activities, helping people feel welcome, and encouraging connection in the local community.

Giving Tree Appeal
Help share kindness at Christmas.
Each year, CRCS supports local people and families through our Giving Tree Appeal.
Volunteers may help collect, sort and prepare donated gifts, support appeal activities, or help bring some extra care and connection to the community during the Christmas season.

Corporate volunteering
Create a team volunteering opportunity.
Businesses and organisations can support CRCS through team volunteering and workplace giving—whether that’s painting at Belconnen Community Centre, fundraising, supporting the Giving Tree Appeal, or providing fleet access for community transport volunteering.
What you can expect from CRCS
We value our volunteers and the contribution they make.
As a CRCS volunteer, you can expect:
- a safe and respectful environment
- clear information about your role
- support from CRCS team members
- training and guidance where needed
- meaningful work that makes a genuine impact on the lives of others
- opportunities to feel part of the CRCS community, including morning teas and other ways to connect
- policies and procedures to support safe practice.
We want volunteering to feel positive, welcoming and worthwhile.

How we can support you
CRCS is committed to keeping children and young people safe.
Child safety is part of our culture and the way we work across the whole organisation. Everyone has a role to play, including employees, volunteers, students and contractors.
Even if your volunteer role does not involve working directly with children, you will receive information and training to help you understand:
- what child safety means at CRCS
- how to help create safe and respectful environments
- how to speak up if something does not feel right
- how to report a concern.
Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility, and we take that responsibility seriously.
Before you start
Because CRCS supports children, older people, people living with disability and other community members, volunteers need to complete some checks before they begin.
This will include:
- a police history check
- a valid Working With Vulnerable People registration
- other checks or training, depending on the role.
We cover the fees associated with these checks.
We will support you through the process and explain what is needed.
