Our Centre

Conveniently located near the corner of Croobyar Road and Princes Highway, our new early learning centre in Milton is an open-planned, play-based centre that accommodates up to 35 children.

A note from our Director

My name is Stella, and I am the Director of Bruce Early Childhood Centre. I am originally from South Korea and moved to Australia in 2009. I have worked in the early childhood sector since 2014 and have a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science, as I used to be a registered nurse.

As a student, I did the practical placement for my Diploma at Bruce Early Childhood Centre. I was inspired by the diversity and quality education of the centre, which gave me valuable insight into the importance of inclusion and multiculturalism, especially in a child’s early development. I felt that I could make a positive impact by being an early childhood Educator.

I believe the biggest drawcard for Bruce Early Childhood Centre is its relationships with the families. The centre is designed to help build relationships with the children and all of the families that come into Bruce. Everyone knows each other by name here—it’s a small and very special place.

My early education and care philosophy is rooted in the rights and agency of the child. I believe in being a safe and trustworthy person so that children trust me enough to come to me, not the other way around.

I actively adjust my approach to fit each child’s needs and give them opportunities to do things for themselves to build their skills and autonomy.

I also believe an early education and care centre should be a place where a child can build their social competence.

Our environments

Each room has been thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs of the age group, focusing on creating a safe and supportive learning environment. Our Educators are highly experienced and use different learning approaches aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Framework (the Frameworks) to ensure that each child receives the best possible start in their learning journey.

Nursery Room

Nursery Room

Designed for up to eight infants from six weeks to two years, the Nursery Room adopts the Reggio Emilia philosophy to ensure children thrive in an environment that prioritises their individual needs and strengths. Educators with expertise and experience in this philosophy create an environment that aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework’s focus on responsive and respectful relationships.

The Reggio Emilia approach provides a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes exploration and discovery. Educators engage with infants in ways that foster curiosity and critical thinking. By encouraging hands-on inquiry and communication, infants develop a sense of belonging and connection to the world around them.

Toddlers Room

Toddlers Room

With a focus on the Montessori style of learning, the Toddler Room caters for up to 15 children aged 18 months to three years. Educators use this approach to prioritise building self-help skills and promoting positive self-regulation among toddlers. This learning method aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework’s emphasis on individual and play-based learning that fosters social and emotional development.

Toddlers engage in various activities that encourage exploration, creativity, and independence. Montessori materials help children develop cognitive, language and motor skills at their own pace. The approach highlights the importance of children learning to do things for themselves and to be independent, leading to a sense of accomplishment and confidence in their abilities.

The Toddler Room provides a nurturing and supportive environment that encourages learning and development, preparing children for future success.

Preschool Room

Preschool Room

The Preschool Room is designed for up to 22 children aged three to five years, where the child-centred learning approach takes centre stage. The approach focuses on fostering a love for learning and encouraging independence. This philosophy aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework’s emphasis on play-based learning and intentional teaching, allowing children to learn through exploration and discovery.

Preschool Educators create a learning environment that sparks children’s creativity and curiosity while promoting cognitive, emotional and social development. Through this approach, children develop their unique interests, skills and knowledge, leading to a sense of pride and accomplishment.

The Preschool Room also places a significant focus on preparing children for transitioning to kindergarten, which aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework’s emphasis on continuity of learning and support for successful transitions. Children leaving the Preschool Room are well-equipped to succeed in kindergarten and beyond, as they have gained essential skills and confidence that will serve them well throughout their educational journey.
