STEM learning through healthy eating at GECC
At Ginninderra Early Childhood Centre, our cook, Jess, plays a crucial role in developing healthy eating habits among our children. Over the past week, Jess has curated a nutritious experience aimed at engaging the children to learn about and prepare nutritious meals.
Across the centre, the children actively participated in programs and curriculums designed to enhance their STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and math) learning and deepen their understanding of food background and preparation methods.
In our Preschool, children engaged in baking blueberry and banana muffins and cheese dampers for afternoon tea. In the Toddler learning space, the children activated their sensory skills by making vegetarian pizzas. They also demonstrated respect and consideration for their peers by patiently awaiting their turns to create.
As part of a mixed-aged group experience, the children had the valuable opportunity to learn about the history of ANZAC cookies while also learning to bake them together.
Our cook also organised a special feast to commemorate all the families and Educators who participated in their Eid al-Fitr, acknowledging, and celebrating the religious diversity within our community.
Over the week, the children at GECC learned about healthy eating habits through engaging STEM activities. As they explored the world of nutrition, they also had fun with their peers.
