Community playgroups
We facilitate free, drop-in playgroups in locations in ACT. Playgroups are regular and relaxed opportunities for children who have not yet started school and their parents or carers to play, explore and interact with others.
Our Playgroups offer a welcoming space for children up to five years to play, learn and connect.
Sessions are guided by our experienced Educators and members of the CRCS Families team, and include age-appropriate activities that support children’s development through play, while helping families build connections in the community.
Support for families
Playgroups also provide a chance for parents and carers to share experiences and access support, including guidance on parenting and connections to other services if needed.
Child safety
Your child’s safety and wellbeing are a priority. Our team follows clear policies and practices to create a safe, respectful and supportive environment for all children and families.
Cost and bookings
Most sessions run weekly during school terms and are free to attend. Unless otherwise stated, no bookings are required – just drop in and join us.
What to Expect at Playgroup
Our Playgroup sessions are guided by children’s interests, family connections, and meaningful learning through play. Each session provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where children can explore, discover, and develop at their own pace while building confidence, creativity, and social connections.
Through a range of play-based experiences, children are encouraged to develop early learning skills, express themselves, and strengthen their emotional, physical, and social wellbeing.
Some of the activities and learning experiences you can expect include:
- Themed Play Experiences – engaging activities that encourage creativity, imagination, and social interaction.
- Early Literacy & Numeracy – introducing letters, numbers, language, and problem-solving through fun, play-based learning.
- Social and Emotional Learning – supporting children to understand emotions, build confidence, develop friendships, and learn about identity and personal wellbeing in age-appropriate ways.
- Movement and Mindfulness – incorporating yoga, music, movement, and active play to promote physical development, coordination, and self-regulation.
- Special Celebrations and Community Events – participating in seasonal activities, cultural celebrations, and community-focused events throughout the year that bring families together and create meaningful shared experiences.
Every Playgroup session is designed to support children’s development while fostering a sense of belonging for the whole family.
