Connected Communities – Firefighters visit our Bruce Early Childhood Centre
Solomon, a preschooler at our Bruce Early Childhood Centre, had an extraordinary birthday surprise recently, with a visit from firefighters from the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA)! With thanks to one of our families with a connection to ESA, Solomon and all the other children watched on in awe as a fire truck arrived at our centre.
The firefighters shared captivating stories about their crucial role in keeping our community safe during times of danger. They taught the children about the specialised gear they wear during fire emergencies and the various equipment in the truck.
The highlight of the day was the opportunity for children interested in a ride to board the fire truck. They loved inspecting the vehicle to look at all the gear used by these dedicated professionals.
We are grateful to the family for organising this exceptional experience and to the firefighters who generously shared their knowledge with our young learners. It truly was a fantastic day, creating lasting memories for everyone involved.
It was also a timely reminder, as we head into summer, of the need to be aware of fires and what to do in cases of emergency.

- ‘I liked the shiny clothes the firefighters wear. It’s like they have superhero dress!’
- ‘The firefighters told us about helping people in danger. I want to be a helper too when I grow up!’
- ‘I touched the big fire truck! It was so cool! I want to ride it every day!’

After an extraordinary 32 years of service, we say a heartfelt goodbye to Graham McKercher, who recently resigned from CRCS to take some time out, enjoy being a grandad, and undertake some international travel.
CRCS recently welcomed our Living Well participants, other community members, sector professionals, and family members and carers to our first Speaker Series session of the year: Unpacking the Changes to My Aged Care – What You Need to Know at the Belconnen Community Centre theatre.
Following on from the signage placed around the Belconnen Community Centre and notices distributed to participants, we are sharing this update to confirm that the Swanson Court carpark has now permanently closed as of Tuesday 2 April 2025, due to a new development at the site by JWLand.
Young people in Belconnen now have easier access to free, confidential health and wellbeing support with the arrival of the T25 Clinic at Belconnen Youth Centre. Every Thursday from 2pm to 5pm the T25 Clinic van, Mini Pat, will be on-site offering a safe and welcoming space for young people aged 12 to 25. There’s no need for an appointment – just drop in when you need support.
The Canberra Day Appeal 2025 has wrapped up for another year and we are grateful to everyone who contributed, either by making a donation or helping to spread awareness. Thanks to the generosity of our community, employees and corporate supporters, we raised an amazing $6,736.40 – an increase from $5590 in 2024. These funds will go directly towards recruiting, training and supporting more volunteer transport drivers, ensuring people in our community can get to their essential medical appointments for chronic health conditions such as cancer and kidney disease.
