Bruce Early Childhood Centre recently celebrated Book Week 2024 with a series of activities that sparked the imaginations of their young learners. This year’s theme, “Reading is Magic”, set the stage for a week full of creativity, learning, and fun.
The week featured a delightful parade, where children were invited to dress up as their favourite characters. Among the standout costumes were Elsa from Frozen and Bluey. The children enjoyed this special opportunity to dress up and participate in the parade. They were delighted to recognise their friends dressed as beloved characters from books.
The children also engaged in hands-on activities, including crafting a rocket ship and an astronaut helmet. With their helmet on, the children took turns embarking on a playful journey to space.
The week’s Book of the Week, Possum Magic, inspired discussions about Australian foods. This conversation sparked the children’s interest as they discussed their favourite foods, with chicken curry being a very popular choice. Nadira, an educator at the centre, enriched the discussion by sharing insights into Indian cuisine. To further this learning experience, the centre is considering an activity where the children can make naan bread. Yum!
The week also featured a sustainability-themed project inspired by The Odd Fish. The children created an ocean-themed area filled with sea animals and rubbish, encouraging them to “save” the ocean by collecting the rubbish and placing it in a bin. Their creativity blossomed when they built a home for a turtle they affectionately named “Timmy.”
Well done to the team at Bruce Early Childhood Centre for creating a magical book week, full of learning and imaginative play!
