We’re pleased to share this wrap up of our Open Day at the Belconnen Early Childhood Centre on Saturday 9 November. The event was a collaborative effort between the BECC Team of Educators and the Marketing and Communications Team.
All in all, we had a wonderful event, with over 100 parents, carers and children joining us for an exciting line-up of activities. That’s 33 families experiencing the centre, meeting its Educators and having a great time. We received a lot of interest in BECC, including some new enrolments, and many people exclaiming “wow” as they entered this wonderful centre.
As expected, face painting was a huge hit, facilitated by two princesses, Mia and Renae from The Funky Fairy. Also outside in the preschool play area were bikes, a slide, sandpit and a plant potting activity, which was a favourite. Our little visitors could choose from tomato, pumpkin or petunia seedlings to plant in their very own compostable CRCS pot to take home.
The preschool room was a hive of activity – freshly made playdough, rock painting and colouring. The toddlers room was all about nutrition. Our little guests could create plate faces using fresh fruit and veggies prepared for the occasion. Navpreet (Nav) Kaur, our Bruce ECC Centre Director spoke to parents about nutrition and provide an informative handout about healthy lunches for long daycare, as well as some recipes.
In the nursery (shoes off, please!), there were plenty of activities for the littlest of all, with BECC Educators keeping the children busy, giving parents a chance to relax and soak in the atmosphere.
Thank you to the CRCS employees who visited and made the event so special. We loved welcoming everyone for a fun day, and we hope to do it all again next year.

After an extraordinary 32 years of service, we say a heartfelt goodbye to Graham McKercher, who recently resigned from CRCS to take some time out, enjoy being a grandad, and undertake some international travel.
CRCS recently welcomed our Living Well participants, other community members, sector professionals, and family members and carers to our first Speaker Series session of the year: Unpacking the Changes to My Aged Care – What You Need to Know at the Belconnen Community Centre theatre.
To celebrate Mother’s Day, Budawang Early Learning Centre in Milton hosted an afternoon tea for mums, carers and grandmothers. Children invited their families into the centre to take part in a range of activities. These included bracelet beading, gluing, drawing, nail painting, and pretend hairdressing. A playdough station invited children to create face moulds with the sign “Can you mould your mum?”, and a photo booth was set up to capture the occasion.
Following on from the signage placed around the Belconnen Community Centre and notices distributed to participants, we are sharing this update to confirm that the Swanson Court carpark has now permanently closed as of Tuesday 2 April 2025, due to a new development at the site by JWLand.
Young people in Belconnen now have easier access to free, confidential health and wellbeing support with the arrival of the T25 Clinic at Belconnen Youth Centre. Every Thursday from 2pm to 5pm the T25 Clinic van, Mini Pat, will be on-site offering a safe and welcoming space for young people aged 12 to 25. There’s no need for an appointment – just drop in when you need support.
