This year, we worked on gardens for eight Canberra households across Dunlop, Florey, Gilmore, O’Connor, Kaleen, Palmerston, Yarralumla and Holt. Each property was a unique challenge, but the end results will make a real difference in the lives of the residents. A safe area for children and pets to play and an organised and relaxing environment for residents.
The day began with a hearty breakfast at St James Anglican Church, followed by a morning briefing and hands-on work across O’Connor, Florey, Calwell and other suburbs. The weather couldn’t have been better – mild and slightly overcast – perfect conditions for a full day of mowing, hedge trimming, garden waste removal and tidying up.
Our day kicked off bright and early at St James Anglican Church in Holt, where a team of CRCS employees served up a hearty breakfast of bacon and egg rolls to fuel our volunteers. After a quick morning briefing, teams set off to their assigned properties, ready to get stuck in.
Volunteers returned to St James for a well-earned buffet lunch, and a chance to share stories from the morning before heading back to finish their gardens or tackle new ones.
We’d like to extend a special thanks to volunteers from Housing ACT, Programmed and ACT Health, whose ongoing support has been a cornerstone of 10/10 Project for a number of years. A big thank you also to Kennards Hire and ACT Skip Hire for their generous contributions, which helped make the day possible.
The feedback from residents has been positive, with many thrilled by their revitalised gardens. This is what the 10/10 Project is all about – making a meaningful impact in our community.
Thank you once again to everyone who participated. Your hard work, enthusiasm and teamwork made the day a success. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and look forward to doing it all again next year!
