Belconnen Early Childhood Centre has an expansive library of books, and every day, the educators read with the children, fostering a deep love for books and stories. During Book Week, the educators took the opportunity to celebrate literature and learning in creative and interactive ways.
The educators read a variety of stories from the collection and invited the children to participate in activities connected to the books, encouraging questions and discussions throughout the readings to open up new learning opportunities.
A couple of the Preschool children discovered books in the community book space and decided to dress up as characters from the stories they found. One child dressed as a unicorn, proudly holding “The Little Unicorn Who Lost His Magic”, while another wore a high-vis vest to match the book “Safety: People Who Keep Us Safe”. This really brought the books to life!
The toddlers at BECC also had a special experience, engaging in an activity inspired by the story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. They explored the narrative by walking through sensory trays that reflected different elements of the book. This activity allowed the children to be confident and active learners, all while deepening their connection to the story.
Book Week at BECC was a fantastic experience, and it was wonderful to see the children’s love for books blossom.

CRCS recently welcomed our Living Well participants, other community members, sector professionals, and family members and carers to our first Speaker Series session of the year: Unpacking the Changes to My Aged Care – What You Need to Know at the Belconnen Community Centre theatre.
To celebrate Mother’s Day, Budawang Early Learning Centre in Milton hosted an afternoon tea for mums, carers and grandmothers. Children invited their families into the centre to take part in a range of activities. These included bracelet beading, gluing, drawing, nail painting, and pretend hairdressing. A playdough station invited children to create face moulds with the sign “Can you mould your mum?”, and a photo booth was set up to capture the occasion.
