Fairy Tale Learning and Creativity at BRECC
Over the past few weeks, the children at Bruce Ridge Early Childhood Centre have shown great enthusiasm for fairy tales, especially “The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf.” This story has become a favourite, with the book read multiple times and the Disney Silly Symphony version enjoyed online. The children have enjoyed both the book and cartoon versions.
The children have been revisiting the story with friends and teachers, using their knowledge to enhance their learning and performance. During group time, one child retold the story using laminated photos of pigs, wolves, and houses, captivating their peers with this dramatic retelling. The children used props, gestures, facial expressions, body movements, and vocal variations to bring the story to life, making it more engaging and meaningful.
A key learning moment happened when the children used metaphorical language and made predictions while retelling the story. This improved their understanding and creativity, by showing that they could make assumptions and use storytelling skills. This activity helped them understand the story better and promoted teamwork and imaginative play.
