A Heartfelt Farewell to BECC and Bruce Early Childhood Centres

A Heartfelt Farewell to BECC and Bruce Early Childhood Centres

In May 2025, CRCS farewelled two long-standing parts of our family – Bruce Early Childhood Centre and Belconnen Early Childhood Centre.

For more than 40 years, these centres helped thousands of children learn, play and grow, supported by dedicated educators who made every child feel safe and valued.

Although the reasons for closing were different, bringing both transitions together meant we could plan carefully and ensure every decision centred on children and families. Each child, including siblings, was offered a place at one of our sister centres – Ginninderra or Bruce Ridge – and most educators were supported into new roles within CRCS.

From the beginning, our approach was guided by one principle: children’s wellbeing comes first. Educational leaders collaborated across centres so receiving educators knew each child’s needs, routines and strengths. Families were kept informed and supported every step of the way, with regular check-ins from our People and Culture team and centre directors to maintain open communication and emotional support.

The transition showed what community means at CRCS. Teams worked together with empathy and creativity – repurposing toys, books and play resources so children could see familiar things in their new environments. Families told us how grateful they were for the care and thought put into the process, and how quickly their children settled.

That trust was reflected in our 2024–25 participant survey, where 100% of families said they trust CRCS to do the right thing and that we meet or exceed their expectations.

While saying goodbye was difficult, the experience reaffirmed what defines us – our compassion, transparency, and always putting children and families at the heart of every decision.
