Max’s Story: Exploring Emotions and Kindness
Annual Report 2024 - 2025

Through the Bungee Youth Resilience Program, Max discovered how kindness and creativity can turn frustration into understanding. His artwork – and his first public speech – became powerful steps in building confidence, purpose and emotional wellbeing.
Max joined his Bungee group with enthusiasm, eager to talk about resilience, gratitude, kindness, moods and friendship. Early on, he shared something personal – that he had some learning difficulties and often found it hard to concentrate in class. What frustrated him most was when other students disrupted lessons and took up the teacher’s time, leaving him feeling overlooked and angry.
Rather than pushing those feelings aside, the group used Max’s honesty as a starting point for a conversation about anger. When it’s okay to feel it, and how sometimes difficult behaviour can be linked to challenges at home. This perspective helped Max see that he didn’t always know what others might be going through.
Together, the group explored how empathy and creativity can transform frustration into something positive. Inspired, Max painted a colourful artwork with the words “Be Kind” at its centre, a reminder of what he’d learned about compassion and self-awareness.
When the group prepared for the end-of-term exhibition, Max decided to go one step further: he wanted to speak publicly about his piece and what kindness meant to him. It was the first time he had ever spoken at a public event, and he did so with courage and pride.
For Max, the moment was more than just an exhibition. It was a chance to be heard, to celebrate his creativity, and to show his family and peers the confidence he had discovered through Bungee. This is social impact in action – showing how creativity can nurture emotional wellbeing.
