For many CRCS participants, the journey to an appointment, activity, or social outing is far more than a ride—it’s a moment of connection, comfort, and belonging. And for those who ride with David, that feeling begins the moment he arrives with his friendly smile and calming presence.
David joined CRCS 12 months ago and has quickly become a favourite among participants, who are drawn to the positivity he brings to every trip.
But David’s journey to CRCS began decades earlier—and halfway around the world. Originally from Taiwan, David migrated to Australia in the 1980s, carrying with him a spirit of resilience, humility, and curiosity. He explored a range of opportunities but it was behind the wheel that he truly found his stride.
David spent many years as a taxi driver, where he learned the art of listening, supporting, and connecting with people from all walks of life. Those early years shaped the way he approaches his work today, with openness, patience, and genuine care.
“I’ve always loved talking to people,” he says. “When you drive, you meet everyone. You hear stories, you see people at their best and their hardest moments. It teaches you kindness.”
Before joining CRCS, David spent time with Communities@Work, where he became known for his reliability, compassion, and the calming presence he brought to every shift.
When he transitioned to CRCS in 2025, he instantly felt at home.
“There’s something special here,” he says. “CRCS feels like a great organisation, with wonderful staff and participants.”
More Than Transport: The Power of Meaningful Moments
To David, driving is not simply about getting someone from point A to point B. It’s about the moments in between, the conversations, the shared laughter, the reassurance he can offer when someone needs a little extra comfort.
David says it is a privilege to support people in their daily lives. “Every person has a story. When someone trusts you, when they’re happy to see you, that means everything.”
His passengers feel that sincerity deeply. Many describe David as a calm, grounding presence, someone who makes them feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether he’s offering a steady hand, remembering the small details about someone’s day, or simply greeting them with his signature smile, David creates an atmosphere of belonging
For David, the best part of each day is the human connection.
“I enjoy making connections every single day,” he says. “If I can make someone feel safe or brighten their morning, that’s the best reward.”
He laughs when asked why participants often request him. “Maybe it’s my smile,” he jokes, “or maybe I just listen.”
But colleagues know it’s much more than that. It’s his consistency, his integrity, and the genuine heart he brings to his work.
David may not see himself as extraordinary, but the community he serves certainly does. His dedication embodies the heart of CRCS creating uplifting experiences, building relationships, and supporting people to live with dignity and joy.
And while he may be behind the wheel, it’s the warmth he brings into each journey that truly moves people.
David is more than a transport driver.
He is a companion, a steady presence, and a reminder that sometimes the smallest interactions can leave the biggest impact.
