Bring people together
Share what you know. Help people connect.
Connect Up is powered by people who want to contribute to their community.
You don’t need professional experience or a formal qualification to volunteer. You might have a hobby, interest or practical skill that others would enjoy, or simply be someone who is friendly, reliable and good at helping people feel welcome.
Volunteering can help you meet new people, build confidence, develop experience and play a meaningful role in creating connection and belonging.
How you could volunteer
You could:
- welcome participants and help them feel comfortable
- support an existing activity or regular group
- help with setting up, packing down or registrations
- lead a one-off workshop or demonstration
- welcome participants and help them feel comfortable
- start a regular activity based on a shared interest
Have a skill or hobby to share?
Your interest could bring people together.
You might enjoy:
- dancing or movement
- painting, drawing or other arts and crafts
- sewing, knitting or crochet
- photography or nature journalling
- cooking or sharing cultural food traditions
- books, writing or storytelling
- gardening or outdoor activities
- music, technology or another practical skill.
These are only examples. Tell us what you enjoy and we can explore what might work. Activities can be one-off, occasional or regular.
We will help you get started
You won’t be expected to work everything out on your own. Our Community Development team can help you:
- shape your activity idea
- understand what participants may need
- promote the activity and manage registrations
- consider accessibility, inclusion and safety
- access ongoing advice and support.
We want activities to be welcoming and genuinely shaped by the people involved—not something you have to deliver alone.
Who can volunteer?
We welcome volunteer enquiries from people with different backgrounds, identities, cultures, experiences and abilities.
Volunteer roles may have different requirements depending on the activity. We will talk with you about your idea, availability and the support you may need. CRCS screening and onboarding requirements may apply before you begin. \

Express your interest
Ready to share an idea or find out more? Complete our volunteer expression of interest form and tell us:
- a little about you
- the skills, interests or hobbies you would like to share
- whether you would prefer to lead or support an activity
- how often you may be available
- any support or accessibility requirements you would like us to know about.
Submitting an expression of interest does not commit you to a role. Our team will contact you for an informal conversation about possible opportunities and next steps.
