Our History: CRCS Through the Years 

1960s–1970s 
Belconnen Community Service (BCS) was formed in 1970 by local church groups and doctors to support residents. Early programs included the “Welcome Wagon” visiting service, bereavement counselling, and family assistance. In 1975, BCS was officially incorporated.

1980s 
Family Day Care and Occasional Care Centres were launched, along with after-school and holiday programs. In 1986, the first community development and family support workers were employed. A year later, the Belconnen Community Centre opened, becoming a hub for local services.

1990s 
Programs expanded to support families, older people, and new migrants. In 1996, BCS took over management of the Belconnen Community Centre. By 1997, Family Day Care became fully coordinated, and new community arts and wellness programs began.

2000s–2010s 
New initiatives like Good Beginnings, Bridges, U-Turn, and Open Art were introduced. In 2004, the first Belconnen Festival showcased community creativity. In 2011, a new structure, logo, and website reflected a modern, growing organisation.

2020
To expand beyond the ACT, BCS became a Company Limited by Guarantee and changed its name to Capital Region Community Services (CRCS), reaching into regional NSW.

Today 
CRCS is proud to deliver programs that create inclusive, connected communities. From early childhood education and playgroups, to youth initiatives like Friday Night Dinners and Bungee, to Living Well social groups, therapeutic services, and family support and education, we support people at every stage of life. Our focus is on increasing community connection, strengthening wellbeing, and ensuring those we support have both a voice and real choice. Every day, we help individuals and families connect, belong and thrive.
