Our Reconciliation Journey

In 2025–26, CRCS developed, submitted and launched our first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, creating a clearer organisation-wide approach to reconciliation.

Developed with guidance from a dedicated RAP Working Group, the plan identifies practical actions to strengthen cultural understanding and ensure reconciliation is embedded in our relationships, everyday practice, decision-making and service delivery. It was launched during National Reconciliation Week in May 2026, marking the beginning of its implementation.

Culture, identity and inclusion

At Budawang Early Learning Centre, educators worked with Aboriginal team members to embed Aboriginal perspectives in everyday learning and strengthen the centre’s culturally safe and welcoming environment.

Children explored local Dhurga language through displays of native animals and sea creatures, while Aboriginal stories were incorporated into literacy, storytelling and creative arts. Inspired by No Way Yirrikipayi! by Alison Lester, children also created a collaborative art installation that supported learning about culture, language, storytelling and community.

 

NAIDOC Week sewing project

To recognise 50 years of NAIDOC Week, children and educators at Budawang created a collaborative wall hanging that combined cultural learning, creativity and practical skill development.

Children contributed ideas about colours, symbols and their meanings while developing fine motor skills through sewing. The finished piece features symbols representing the river and sun, along with handprints from an Aboriginal educator and Budawang’s youngest child. It is now displayed at the centre as a lasting representation of the children’s learning and participation.

The launch marked the beginning of a more structured approach to reconciliation and reflects our commitment to progressing this work with care, respect and responsibility.
