Cooking Up Teamwork and Friendship

At our Outside School Hours Care program, activities are designed to help children unwind, connect, and learn from one another. One afternoon, a group of children took part in a cooking activity, making banana and cinnamon rolls together.

Each child chose a role, such as measuring ingredients, mixing or rolling dough. They took turns with the utensils, listened to each other and offered help when needed. The activity gave everyone a chance to contribute and practise cooperation in a relaxed setting.

When the rolls were ready, the group decided to share them with all the children for afternoon snack. It was a simple gesture that reinforced the idea that good things come from working together and including others.

These everyday moments are what make OSHC such a valuable part of the school day. Children have time to slow down, build friendships, and learn how to work respectfully with others. For families, it’s reassurance that their children are spending time in a safe, supportive space that helps them grow in confidence and social skills.
