A Bridge to Brighter Futures for James
Annual Report 2024 - 2025
James first heard about the Bridge to Brighter Futures program while joining in on Dungeons & Dragons nights at The Corner, Belconnen Youth Centre. With a strong interest in technology and creativity, he was keen to explore options for his future.
As part of the program, James worked closely with CRCS youth workers to identify what was most important to him. Together, they mapped out his interests and found a work experience placement that matched his goals. James joined the Marketing and Communications Team at CRCS, where he had the chance to put his digital skills into practice.
From sharing ideas on the Belconnen Youth Centre’s social media and website to helping shape online youth engagement, James’ fresh perspective and creativity were celebrated. He enjoyed having his own workspace, being trusted with meaningful projects, and seeing his ideas come to life — not just ticking boxes with routine tasks.
This supportive experience built James’ confidence and sense of purpose, showing him that his voice and choices mattered. It also helped him take the next step: enrolling at Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) and continuing to access support through the Youth Centre’s Education Support sessions on Tuesday afternoons.
James’ journey shows how programs like Bridge to Brighter Futures empower young people with opportunities, options, and the encouragement to shape their own path — building confidence, wellbeing and a stronger sense of direction.
