Volunteer Driver

Help older people stay connected. Drive for your community.

We urgently need more volunteer drivers to help older people and people living with disability stay connected to everyday life.

Right now, more people need help getting to appointments, shopping, errands and social activities, and we need more drivers to meet this growing need.

As a volunteer driver, you can:

  • Help someone stay independent and connected
  • Enjoy good conversation and meet new people
  • Volunteer in a way that fits your schedule
  • Be reimbursed 99c per kilometre to help cover fuel and running costs
  • Receive training, guidance and support from the CRCS team.

A simple drive can make a real difference.

Why volunteer with CRCS?

Volunteer driving is a meaningful and practical way to help people in your local community.

As a volunteer driver, you may experience:

  • An opportunity to help others and give back locally
  • Social connection and enjoyment through conversation
  • A sense of purpose and contribution
  • A sense of belonging within the CRCS community
  • Flexible volunteering options that fit your schedule
  • Improved mental wellbeing and quality of life, particularly for older volunteers

It’s not just about the drive. It’s about the conversation, connection and knowing you have helped someone get where they need to be.

What volunteer drivers do

Volunteer drivers help older people and people living with disability get to:

  • Medical and health appointments
  • Shopping and essential errands
  • Social activities
  • Community programs and outings

Many people do not have another reliable way to get where they need to go. Your support can help someone maintain their independence, confidence and connection to community.

Flexible volunteering

We know time is one of the biggest barriers to volunteering. That’s why this role is designed to be flexible.

You can volunteer:

  • Weekly, fortnightly or occasionally
  • Between 8:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday
  • At times that suit your schedule
  • Before or after work, or around trips you may already be making

Even one drive can help someone stay connected to everyday life.

What support is provided?

CRCS will support you through the volunteer process.

Volunteer drivers receive:

  • Reimbursement of $99c per kilometre driven
  • Training, including first aid
  • Support and guidance from the Living Well team
  • Invitations to morning teas and volunteer connection opportunities
  • Information to help you feel confident in the role

What do I need?

To become a volunteer driver, you will need:

  • A current driver’s licence
  • Comprehensive car insurance
  • A willingness to complete required checks and training

CRCS will support you with:

  • Working with Vulnerable People registration
  • Police check
  • First aid training
  • Volunteer onboarding

Keeping Children and Young People Safe:  At Capital Region Community Services, keeping children safe is the most important thing we do. While volunteer drivers do not work directly with children, child safety is part of CRCS’s culture and how we work every day. All volunteer drivers will complete child safety training, hold a current police check and Working with Vulnerable People registration, and follow CRCS policies and procedures, so everyone understands their role in keeping children and young people safe.
